Mission Preparation
Now that you have decided to serve, it’s time to prepare for that service! The missionary purpose is to “Invite others to come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end.” In your preparation, think about how different activities can help you fulfill that purpose.
Ways to Prepare
Testimony & Knowledge of the Gospel
The first and most important step to missionary preparation is spirituality. You can prepare by studying the Book of Mormon daily, studying Preach My Gospel, being engaged at church meetings, and serving others.
Personal Worthiness
Here are some ideas to help you maintain your personal worthiness: learnabout standards of worthiness in For the Strength of Youth and Preach My Gospel; partake of the sacrament weekly; get a temple recommend, keep it current and visit the temple often; talk with your bishop about your personal worthiness if needed.
Work and Self-Reliance
Prepare yourself for the hard work and diligence that a mission requires. Work with the missionaries in your area, become more proactive and independent, make an effort to meet new people and talk to them about a variety of topics, and plan and set goals.
Physical & Emotional Health
Learn about and practice good physical and emotional health. Look into the basic physical requirements for a mission.
Financial Preparation
Serving a mission requires careful financial preparation. Find a way to earn and save money for your mission, and be sure to always pay tithing.
